Lalita Mazgaeen

Biography

I am from the Himalayan country Nepal. I received my B.S. in Biotechnology at SANN International College (Purbanchal University) in Nepal. During my undergraduate I worked on a project that involved using different molecular techniques to detect rare form of diabetes; MODY in Diabetic population of Kathmandu.

I came to US in 2014 and joined the  M.S. program at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville with a focus on Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology. However, my thesis project was on improvement of RNAi technology in Drosophila. I worked with DDT-resistant fruit flies and was very interested to learn about the mechanism how pesticides affect the biological processes.

I joined the Human Toxicology Doctoral program at University of Iowa in Fall 2017. I was attracted to this program as it is interdisciplinary. Human toxicology program seems to be the best fit for me to gain new insight into these processes and broaden the horizon of my research capability.
