Ya'u Adamu
I am originally from Nigeria and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. My interest in toxicology started when I took a class on the Clinical Tropical Toxicology during the final year of my Pharmacy School. More recently, my work with Dr. Xiaohui Xu at the Texas A&M University – College Station on the Acute Health Effects of Occupational Exposure to Nanoparticles on Cardiopulmonary Functions further strengthens my interest in joining Toxicology. I am interested in researching the utility of the biomarkers of air pollution-related exposure in chronic disease prevention and human risk assessment.
I hope to use the skills and experience gained from this program to become an outstanding scholar conducting innovative research in academia or the industrial sector for the betterment of humankind. I selected the University of Iowa Human Toxicology Program because of its highly students' centered nature, diverse research expertise, flexible lab rotations, and non-discriminatory funding opportunities.
