Biography

Sir Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan's "The Gene Machine" ignited my interest in biological research at a young age. During my bachelor's, I explored the world of microbiology, discovering the antimicrobial properties of core-shell nanoparticles against MRSA superbugs. Building on my work in nanotechnology, I synthesized silicon icosahedron nanoparticles and was able to engineer their sizes. I joined Dr. Yogesh Shouche's team at NCCS NCMR (National Centre for Cell Sciences, National Centre for Microbial Resource), Pune, where our research showed concerning trends of community dissemination of antimicrobial resistance across India, a critical issue in today's world.

During the pandemic, I joined the fight against COVID-19 by contributing to the molecular diagnostics of COVID-19 at GenePath Diagnostics, India. My passion for research led me to pursue a master's degree at The University of Manchester in the UK, where I received the Global Futures Scholarship. Under the guidance of Professor Graham Pavitt, I investigated the interactions between translation initiation factors, eIF2, and eIF2B, and their contribution to regulating protein synthesis under normal and stress conditions.

Siddhartha Mukherjee's "The Emperor of all Maladies" piqued my interest in cancer biology. After completing my master's, I interned in clinical cancer pathology at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre in India, developing an understanding of the complex interplay between research and clinical practice. I am interested in investigating the fundamental processes in carcinogenesis and tissue specificity in cancer.

Outside of research, I am dedicated to developing science awareness and scientific aptitude in young minds through NGOs like Jnana Prabodhini, Pune. Additionally, I serve as the program director at Jnana Prabodhini Foundation, USA.

I chose to join the Human Toxicology program at the University of Iowa due to its interdisciplinary nature and highly collaborative research environment. I believe that the training and exposure I would receive through this program will build my potential to become an independent researcher in the future.
