Ayotunde Dokun, MD, PhD, FACE

Professor
Biography

Campus Address: 340G Eckstein Medical Research Building

Primary Department: Internal Medicine-Endocrinology and Metabolism

Interdisciplinary Department: Human Toxicology Program

Research Interests: Dr. Dokun’s research interest focuses on understanding how genetic factors and the metabolic abnormalities associated with diabetes contribute to vascular diseases such as peripheral artery disease (PAD). His lab has found that diabetes appears to impair regulation of gene ADAM12 in humans and in rodents such that its expression is blunted in muscles resulting in poor blood flow. His lab would like to better understand how gene ADAM12 works to improve blood flow and determine how to manipulate this for therapy in PAD especially in individuals with diabetes.
