Molly Manternach

PhD Student
Biography

My name is Molly Manternach and I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Spring of 2026 with a dual degree B.S. in Chemistry and Forensic Science, and an additional minor in Spanish. I was originally introduced to toxicology through an internship working in a forensic toxicology lab at a Medical Examiner office, where I had the opportunity to work with postmortem specimens, aiding chemists with their casework and performing stability studies of different specimen types.

My interest further grew through a Forensic Toxicology lecture and lab at VCU. During undergrad, I also interned at an academic medical lab where I trained on clinical panels and screenings, interned with a genetic genealogist, and conducted an independent study on the fluorescence quenching of riboflavin in Celsius Energy Drinks.

I am very excited to explore the field of toxicology more through the Human Toxicology Program at the University of Iowa. I look forward to engaging with the program and working alongside other students with similar interests. In addition to learning, I also love to read, hike, and watch movies with friends and family.
