Several faculty from the University of Iowa Human Toxicology Program had a journal article published in the prestigious Environmental Science and Pollution Research journal. Dr. Hans-Joachim Lehmler, Dr. Larry Robertson, and Dr. Michael Duffel collaborated with researchers from the University of California-Davis to publish the article "Authentication of synthetic environmental contaminants and their (bio)transformation products in toxicology: polychlorinated biphenyls as an example."

The researchers propose guidelines for the "authentication" of synthetic PCBs and, by extension, other organic toxicants, and provide a checklist for documenting the authentication of toxicants reported in the peer-reviewed literature.
